SMRC Marathon Weekend - THANK YOU!!

Crews from St. Michael's kick started our post lockdown return to training by supporting Pieta House in a unique fundraising event over the weekend.

Our junior, senior, recreational and master's crews took on the task of completing 42kms each or in relay teams by rowing on their ergometers, running, hiking and cycling. We even had a 1km open water swim in Limerick city centre when committee member Andrew O'Connell took to the River Shannon for a swim in the sunshine.

(All of the participants completed the events from home and in-line with government guidelines on social distancing).

Over 80 people took part in the narathon weekend over two days and the total distance completed was a staggering 3,170,484 meters. As of Monday evening the total raised is over €6,500 and the link will stay open for a few days more.

Chris Kirwan finished the 42km distance in a new Irish Record time of 2 hours 55 minutes and 12 seconds beating the record previously set by Katie Showlow of Bann Rowing Club.

* €2,000 Fundraising Target for Pieta House

SMRC members will take part in a Marathon Fundraiser Weekend in aid of Pieta House on Saturday April 24th & Sunday April 25th.
Each rower will clock up a minimum of 42,000m (Marathon Distance) on rowing machines, running, walking/hiking or by cycling 84,000m. Our target is to cover over 3 Million Metres over one weekend.
Our younger junior crews (aged 12-15) will compete in relay teams to hit the 42,000m mark.Joining them in completing individual marathon distances will be our Junior 16-18s, Seniors, Recreational Squads and our Masters crews.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see our progress.

Our fundraising target is €2,000 and we hope our members, supporters, local businesses and the public will row behind us to reach our goal. This is not a rowing club fundraiser, all funds raised are donated to Pieta House to support them in the amazing and vital work that they do.

** Everyone taking part in the event is doing so from home as we are observing social distance guidelines**

DONATE HERE to support our St. Michael's Rowing Club Rowers as we demonstrate that Mileage Makes Champions to cover over 3 Million Metres and raise funds for Pieta House.

Pieta's vision is a world where suicide, self-harm and stigma have been replaced by hope, self-care and acceptance. By supporting us you will allow us to strive to make this a reality. Without your support we would not have been able to give hope to over 50,000 people since we first opened our doors in 2006.All of our services (one-to-one counselling, 24 hour helpline, SBLO Service, Training and Education) are provided free of charge. This is only possible because of you.

SMRC Code of Behaviour 2020

A new document entitled St Michael’s RowingClub Code of Behaviour has been finalised and is now an integral part of life in SMRC. We ask that all associated with the club make themselves familiar with it's contents. It will be available on this website permanently for reference.

The committee are very grateful to the authors and contributors. This is the result of exhaustive research and reflects the values we strive to work by. Thank you very much.
