SMRC Photo Gallery

Thanks to Mike O’Dwyer, the process of digitizing the old photographs in Cecil Street is well underway. The first batch of photographs have now been uploaded to the Club Gallery. This is a critical task in preserving our Club Archives as it a) preserves an image of the old photographs which will fade over time b) provides a copy in case of fire or water damage and c) enables us to share them with members and past members worldwide.

Most of the photographs from Cecil Street that have been uploaded to date are from 1900-1920’s but there are a few from the late 70’s/early 80’s. Please check back over the next few months as more are uploaded. Click on GALLERY on the left hand side to access the photographs.

SMRC LOTTO - read all about it!

The SMRC Online Lotto is now LIVE...

The Lotto will be a vital element in our fundraising drive for a much needed and much improved slip at the boathouse enabling us to increase capacity on the river at any given time while also improving safety and convenience.

2014 Coffee Morning

We would like to invite all our members, parents and friends to our annual all day Coffee Morn, on Fri 6th June. It's a perfect opportunity to catch up with friends & family over a cuppa and sample lots of our excellent home baking, which we're now famous for, while enjoying the best riverside view in town!

We're here til 4pm, so drop in anytime that suits you.

European Champs

Two Junior rowers, David O’Malley of St. Michaels R.C. and Conor Carmody of Shannon R.C. have been selected to represent Ireland in the Junior Men Double Sculls at the European Rowing Championships in Hazewinkel, Belgium on Sat 24th - Sun 25th May 2014.

The two lads finished first and second at the National trials in single sculls and were tried in a double at the Easter training camp. The double performed well in the camp and have been given the selection for the Europeans. These two lads have great experience built up over a short number of years having been part of the Irish Junior Quad at last years World Championships in Lituania, with two Cork lads.

To show our support, we're having an informal cuppa and cakes for the Rowers and Coaches after training this Sun 11th. to help with funding David's trip. If parents wish to drop in, you're more than welcome, but I can't guarantee the Rowers will have left you anything. They never stop eating!! A donation of €2 would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you...

SMRC at Riverfest

Our Senior Rowers are entering a team into the Riverfest BBQ Competition captained by Peter Waldron, on Sat 3rd May. This is also a new fundraiser for the Club. So please support our Senior Rowers by visiting the SMRC BBQ in the vicinity of Denmark St., and show your appreciation for their culinary skills, by donating a few euros. They guarantee that you'll want seconds!

Thank YOU!!

Thank you to all the parents and members who helped with the regatta catering over the weekend, including all those who baked, made sandwiches and worked in our mobile shop. We wouldn't have been able to provide our catering service without your contributions and commitment. The Rowers ate everything!

A special note of thanks to the following people who slaved over a hot BBQ for both days:
Adrian & Marie Spellman, Donal & Declan (our Rec Rowers) and of course our Captain Jim who BBQ, towed trailers, installed our shop on site with the assistance of JB, Ritchie and Donal as well as doing all his usual jobs as Captain & Coach! Also, thanks to Sean Foley for sorting the electrics on site.

Thank you to Paul Craughan of O'Connells Butchers, Little Catherine St who supplied and delivered the burgers to us on site. We were sold out on Sat!

Thank you to Damien Masterson for the use of his jeep and trailer as he helped transport our mobile shop from OBB, otherwise we would never have got home!

And thanks to the 'clean up' crew who stayed on after a long day of hard work and rowing, including our Coaches Joe, Fish, Jim, our Rowers and members of Limerick Regatta Committee.

Grub's up @ LK Regatta

St. Michael's Rowing Club will be providing their excellent catering service for both the Limerick and Schools Regatta this year.

Please check out our healthy, scrumptious and competitively priced menu.

Our Shop and BBQ will be in the usual place, bottom of the hill, rhs. You won't miss us, we're the gazebo with the queue of hungry rowers outside the door!

SMRC 2014 Head of the River CANCELLED

Due to ongoing weather and flood conditions we have had to cancel this year's Head of the River. Safety comes first and the weather hasn't led to sufficient improvement in course conditions.

Thanks to everyone for their support, we look forward to seeing you at the next one.

Matt Cuddy - RIP

St Michael’s is greatly saddened to hear of the sudden death of Matt Cuddy who passed away this morning. Matt was a talented oarsman with Limerick Boat Club in the 1980’s. In recent times he shared his rowing knowledge and experience by joining the coaching staff in St Michael’s where his son Jonathon is rowing. We wish to express our condolences to his wife Carmel, son Jonathon, daughter Jessica and his wider circle of family and friends.

We're OPEN!

Club re-opened, training as per normal from Mon 10th Feb.

The Captain.

SMRC flood appeal

Dear Members and Parents,
As you know by now, the Club was flooded on Sat 1st Feb and as a result we will have various repairs to do over the coming months. The attached picture shows the extent of the flooding an hour after high tide, as we had to wait for the water to drop before we could gain access to the club!

Our main concern at the moment is the maple floor in the gym and committee room. Part of the floor has to be replaced in the committee room, and we're hoping the rest will be OK, dehumidifiers are going 24hrs a day. Seals have broken down on glass doors and are now leaking. Our weights room needs reflooring, the fridge and kitchen flooring has to be replaced and there are various leaks in our roof. Boat Containers also need securing.

So to help us raise funds for these repairs, we are organising a Clothing Recycling Fundraiser. 'Cash for Clobber' is a great way for all to help by recycling your old clothes, shoes, bags, everything except duvets and pillows. All the rowers will be given recycling bags over the weekend, to bring home, for your convenience. But you can also use black refuse bags. You can drop off your recycling to the club on the following dates, during training times:
* Fri 28th Feb
* Sat 29th March
* Sat 19th April
* Sat 17th May

We would ask you to spread the word to your family, friends and work colleagues, to donate any unwanted clothing to our appeal.

Please click here for further information re the recycling company, Cookstown Textile Recyclers, and how your old clothes will help our Club and others.

There is also the potential to win a cash prize of €4,500 depending on the volume of clothing we recycle by May 31st. Start your Spring Cleaning now!

Thank You,

There is strictly NO ACCESS to the Club until further notice, due to flood damage. All doors are sealed.

The Captain.

SMRC HoR postponed

With regret we must cancel this Saturday’s Head of the River at O’Brien’sbridge. The weather forecast is very severe and from a health & safety perspective it would be unsafe to run this event on Saturday.

Please note that this event has been rescheduled for Saturday 22nd February 2014. We hope you can re-arrange your plans and join us then.

SMRC Head of the River 2014

The SMRC HoR 2014 is coming up this weekend and our shop will be on site again this year,open from 8am to 4pm. There will be a variety of hot food available, including pasta, homemade soup and plenty of home baking. This year, we will also provide a BBQ which will be situated next to the shop, where 100% beef burgers will be on offer for €3.
