We're back! St. Michael's Rowing Club, Limerick is please to announce the return of our annual Urban Run, on Sunday October 7th at 13:00 AND.... we need your help!

We need volunteers to man the water station, marshal the course (Contact Donal) and help baking or serving (Contact Hahhah) in the club please. It's just a few hours on Sunday and will enable us to run the event safely and efficiently. Thank you.

Now in it's sixth year, the SMRC Urban Run sponsored by Sherry Fitzgerald will be held on Sunday October 7th and will again deliver a flat, fast and scenic course so you can achieve your goal - no matter what your ability. If you've done a previous SMRC Urban Run, we know you'll be back if you can make it....... if you haven't, make 2018 the year you become an Urban Runner!!

SMRC Masters Regatta

Entries for our 2nd Annual Masters Regatta on August 25th are closing on Wednesday at 7pm. Let us know what categories or scheduling needs you have! We’re here to run the event for the rowers. Contact the Captain today!

Entries are coming quickly which is great news for this event which started only last year and really was a very enjoyable regatta. We're delighted to be running it again this year. The club BBQ is the same afternoon, so there's no excuse. Hot & cold foods and beverages all available on the day. Please bring the family...

SMRC Summer Camps

St. Michael's Rowing Summer Camps are a great way of being introduced to rowing and maybe starting a whole new way of life. Our three day summer rowing camps will be run over three camps in August:

* Camp 1: Tuesday 7th August @ 12:00 pm - Thursday 9th
* Camp 2: Wednesday 15th August @ 08:00 am - Friday 17th
* Camp 3: Monday 20th August @12:00 pm - Wednesday 22nd
Cost: €75

Each day is a four hour block. Start times will change gradually with the tide.

There will be a Barbeque on the last day of each camp - please notify us if you prefer your child not to partake.

We aim to offer the complete introductory Rowing experience to your child:
· Water Safety
· Boat handling & care
· Indoor rowing
· Warm-up & Stretching
· Running
· PT - physical training
· Barbeques.
· Sunshine (don't hold your breath on this one!)

On top of this we get the kids to compete on the indoor rowers and get a feel for real races!

Rowing is a demanding sport that requires commitment from Athletes, Parents and coaches. Fitness is essential as is attendance and participation. We've added the running, warm-up, PT & stretching elements so that your kids get an insight into what the life of a rower really is.

Attendance on SMRC Rowing camps does not entitle you to membership however it is a great first step for Junior Rowers.

It is essential that your child can swim,
and does not have any ailment or condition that could prevent him/her from rowing or be a subsequent danger to themselves, other children or their instructors. The instructors will do their utmost to safeguard your children but need to know anything that may be of cause for concern. If in doubt, just ask. If your child requires regular medication for whatever reason, please notify us.

To reserve a spot in the summer camps or for any more information please contact us at

Captain's Message

Our 2018 season drew to a close with a series of very solid performances at the championships which gives us lots to build on for the future, the highlight of course being our new Men’s Junior 1x Champion of Ireland, Ryan Spelman. His dedication and commitment to training was outstanding and the proof was in the win.

Well done to all crews & coaches on a very successful and progressive year. Lots of wins and top placements in what was a difficult racing season with so many events cancelled.

The athletes, coaches & captain are taking a little ‘sos beag’ to take a well deserved break. The club is closed for crew training but there’s a bunch of die hards training away but we’d remind the junior crews to enjoy the break!

Thanks to all our volunteers for their tireless commitment and energy to running our amazing club. Thank you to our supporters who did a great job especially with fundraising. Roll on 2019.

Don’t worry - we’ll keep you updated on the Home Internationals & Coupe de la Jeunesse but other than that we’re out of the office until August.

Is mise le meas,
Captain Richie.

Well rowed - SMRC in Eton

Congratulations to all our crews who competed at the British Schools Regatta at the London Olympic course at Eton Dorney this weekend. It was a fantastic experience for our junior development squads and will prove an inspiration for their future.

Thank you to coaches Joe, Pete & Fish for taking care of the crews & boats for the weekend. Top notch job.

Thank you to our unsung towing hero Ado for bringing the trailer and boats over and back safely.

Thanks to the parents who helped with the organisation and helping over the weekend especially Damien and Helen with the transport and accommodation.

And to our crews - well done everyone! A summary of our weekend is in the attached link. Some very exciting races and fantastic performances from everyone. Plenty to build on for the rest of the season.

There are plenty of pics on our facebook page.

Best of luck to all our SMRC crews, and don't forget the 'after party' in Cobblestone Joe's, Ellen St., with Brian O'Connor - gig starts at 7pm. Admission is free and open to all.

2018 Head of the River update

Our annual Head of the River is moving into Limerick City this year because of flooding at O'Briensbridge. This is a great opportunity for a spectator event and the tides are perfect for it too. Happy days. All entry and prospectus details are posted on the Rowing Ireland website.

Additionally, we're having a get together and gig at Cobblestone Joe's in Ellen St. that evening. Brian O'Connor, a former member of SMRC, is flying in from Sweden just for us!
